the community council of the royal burgh of tain

Hello and a very warm welcome from the Royal Burgh of Tain Community Council. My name is George Amos and I am the Chairman. The Community Council is made up of nine members and they are the voice of the community looking after the wellbeing of residents and visitors to Tain and the surrounding area.

We are extremely lucky to live in the beautiful town of Tain, a Royal Burgh since 1066. Situated 40 minutes north of Inverness and overlooking the Dornoch Firth, Tain is an historic town which has played an extensive part in the history of Scotland. This can be explored through a visit to the local Museum at Castle Brae, and at Tain Through Time on Tower Street. Tain has many historical sites that you can visit as well as enjoying the rich architectural built heritage within the town. Tain has a renowned golf course designed by Old Tom Morris and many other recreational facilities. We have a choice of hotels and B&Bs along with restaurants, public houses, café’s and shops. The surrounding area has a wealth of wildlife that can be seen on walks along the beaches and through woodlands and hills. And of course we have a world famous attraction none other than Glenmorangie Distillery which you can visit and where you can take a tour and at the end have a well earned Dram.

We hope your visit, be it long or short, is a memorable one and you take pleasure from enjoying our Highland hospitality. Haste ye Back!.

George Amos
